The Old Way: CBM wellheads were spray foamed with cattle fences around the wellhead. In cold snaps, approximately 20% of wells went down which required methanol batching by Encana operators in order to get production back on-line. When the wells required a workover, the foam would crack and delaminate, resulting in a field installation of additional insulation.
The New Way: FRP/Mocoat MC 11′ x 10′ x 6′ double-wall , insulated shelters with access hatch for swabbing wells without lifting the shelter were installed c/w small catadyne heaters tied-into the wellhead. The shelter height was limited to 6’ to facilitate framers irrigation. This saved the following costs:
- No insulation on the wellheads themselves.
- Cattle fences were not required.
- No re-insulation of wellheads in the field from workovers.
- No loss of production due to freezing from any well in 2011/2012.
- No operator time spent batching methanol, as well as the cost of the methanol itself.
